The public transport system in New York City, was stopped ahead of Typhoon attacks Sandy on Monday (29/10).

Governor Andrew Cuomo said the service NYC subways, buses and trains will stop Sunday at 19:00 local time (06:00 GMT).

A total of 375,000 people have been ordered to evacuate, and schools will be closed.

Some states in the East Coast has declared a state of emergency.

As many as 60 million people will be affected by the storm that would also attacked a number of key states during the U.S. presidential election 6 November.

Both candidates have changed the direction of their campaign. President Barack Obama called Sandy as a storm that is "big, serious and moving slow," and said the disaster will add new problems.

"It is important for us to do big and fast response," Obama said after meeting with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Answering the question whether the storm could affect the vote, Obama said, "We did not anticipate it at this time but we will certainly monitor it."

Republican presidential candidate, Mitt Romney, cancel attendance at an event in Virginia, one of the key states in the election, due to the weather, and went to Ohio.
